untitled

Written by: David Rabe
Directed by: Scott Elliott
Cast: Bobby Cannavale, Josh Hamilton, Ethan Hawke, Catherine Kellner, Parker Posey, Wallace Shawn and Halley Wegryn Gross.

David Rabe's tour-de-force play is a shocking and brutally comic reflection on a decade of decadence. Set in the cocaine-and-sex infused Hollywood Hills of the mid-1980s and featuring a newly revised script from Rabe, this all-star production transferred from a limited run at off-Broadway's Acorn Theatre to an open-ended run at the brand new 37 Arts theater complex. This is the first New York production of Hurlyburly since its celebrated Broadway run in 1984.

Hurlyburly stars Oscar nominee Ethan Hawke as Eddie, a restless casting agent, who along with his three friends Mickey (Josh Hamilton), Phil (Bobby Cannavale) and Artie (Wallace Shawn), are all caught in love/hate relationships with Hollywood women. Parker Posey stars as flighty Darlene, along with Elizabeth Berkley (Showgirls, Saved By the Bell) as firecracker Bonnie and newcomer Halley Wegryn Gross as troubled teen, Donna.

“I have been fascinated with the role of Eddie from Hurlyburly since I was 18 years old ...Hurlyburly is one of the great modern plays, and playing Eddie is probably my most challenging, darkest role to date.
It’s a challenge I’m
looking forward to.”
—Ethan Hawke
